Parents are the critical influence in their children's lives. Schools should seek to partner with them and to involve and inform at every opportunity. I will oppose any efforts to withhold vital information from parents. In particular, I oppose AB 1955.
Schools should focus on traditional academic subjects and celebrate high achievement. I have helped many students aim high and experience success and I will encourage and guide our schools to focus on those outcomes.
California schools are in crisis - fewer than half of Chico students are proficient in math. Last year, in response, I began volunteering 3 days a week at the local charter where I serve as a board member. As a Chico Unified trustee, math readiness will remain a key focus for me.
I will speak directly with teachers to understand their needs. And I will work to channel resources away from administration and bureaucracy and toward the teachers that work with our kids.
I have a demonstrated passion for helping those who want to succeed but face an uphill battle. Chicoans share these values but their good will has been exploited by political interests. I oppose DEI and through my actions and leadership I will work to reform these broken programs.
